RE: First time in RV - California Trip Advice

Zephyr Cove is open year round. They are associated with the hotel across the street. They plow the front of the campground and keep it open for snowmobile crowd. Was there one year in January about 6 years ago and there were several people camping in the snow. If I was traveling from the west I would probably come in over the 80 into Reno and then take 395 south to the 50 west to Tahoe.

RE: air brakes

I had a Jacobs (Jake Brake) installed on my Dodge CTD. It is always nice to know you have the extra braking power when you need it, especially on long downhill grades.

RE: 2008 Carriage Domani -- Big Disappointment!

The Majority of Carriage Owners on this website will defend the product and the Company to the end. That is until they have a problem, and then find out what some have been trying to tell them all along. Customer Service is not a strong point of Carriage, I am speaking for myself of course, but I will always try to educate a potential buyer on what the Company is capable of based on how I have been treated. I love my Carriage, just wish I was treated better, especially when the problem was created at the factory. Would I buy another one. No, but that's just me not wanting to take the gamble.

RE: 2008 Carriage Domani -- Big Disappointment!

At least your problems presented themselves early on. The front of my Carriage Cameo was separating from the trailer, because it was only held on with approximately 9 screws. The repair facility had to take the entire front cap of the trailer off and reinstall it. Just one of several problems I had. It will be a great trailer once you get all the problems fixed. Just wish Carriage was a little more responsible with taking care of the Customer. Goodluck and hang in there.

RE: Interesting news report on "new" tires

JMTTS: Thanks for suppling the information. I have been aware of this for some time. Recently I needed to replace a tire on my trailer and the local Goodyear dealer attempted to sell me a 4 year old (New Tire). I requested a newer tire and was given one. Go figure. For those who were not aware of the common practice, I would say this is going to be an eye opener. Again thanks for the info.

RE: Pros and cons on extended pin boxes

I must be doing something right with my factory installed extended pin with the mileage. I've always done well, this summer the first leg of our trip was approximately 430 miles. I got about 18.5 miles to the gallon, towing a 28.5' trailer, with an 8' bed and extended pin box. As for the turbulance issue, I never place anything between the tail gate and the hitch. I think you maybe okay with just the extended box with your short bed. Just my observation.

RE: Carriage cameo

Our Cameo is a 2001, many on this website will tell you they have had no troubles with their unit and that's great, I wish I would of got one of the those. I can only tell you what happen to mine.
1. Front Cap was improperly installed at the factory, this was not discovered until I was out of warranty. The improper installation was confirmed at an authorized Carriage dealership. The response from Carriage was Sorry your warranty has expired. Their are many manufactures out there that would have corrected this problem, but Carriage is not one of them.
2. Improperly installed skylight in bathroom area. No inner gasket was found on the unit when it was replaced. The lack of the gasket caused water damage in the bathroom. Luckly the dealership picked up the cost of the repair. They no longer sell Carriage Products.
I could go on about others that have had problems, But I won't because it will only start a war with those who feel the need to defend Carriage at all cost. I just thought you might want to here from someone that does not have that warm and fuzzy feeling about the Company.

RE: Our trip through the pacific north west

Great information, as I am aways looking for ideas for the upcoming camping season. I did glance at your blog, but did not see an area for the places you have been with pictures of the campgrounds and sites. Was only on for a couple of seconds. If your not already doing so, would you consider posting pictures of the campgrounds and the sites you are staying in? I will enjoy your blog and adventure especially now as it will be a while before I can hit the road again. Happy trails.

RE: San Francisco Campground

We stayed in Morgan Hill at Coyote Valley RV Resort. It is close enough to visit Monterey and San Francisco, within 1 hour drive on the weekend. When traveling from Morgan Hill north on the 101 you will cross over the Golden Gate Bridge. The 101 ends on the south side of the city and you will have to travel a short distance on city streets. It's not bad if done on the weekend in the early hours. I have a 5th Wheel trailer and it was not that bad. If you have any skills it should not be a problem. I know you will be traveling south, just giving you a heads up. Time your travels through San Francisco and LA in the very early morning hours or late in the evening. 0600 or 2000 hours. Hwy 1 is a little more challenging, but if done correctly and safely can be a very memorable adventure. Good luck and Happy Trailes.

RE: California RV Park on/near Lake with onsite storage/setup

How about owning your campsite adjacent to a nice lake? Look at Big Bear Shores in Big Bear Ca. Better bring a wheel barrow full of cash because these sites are not cheap. Check out their website. www.Bigbearshores.com
I love space #105 the ultimate campsite. Only $495,000 and the trailer comes with it. Enjoy

RE: Camp Ground Near LA International

Did you look at East Shore RV Park in San Dimas. Actually the KOA and this park are the best in the area surrounding LA. They are approximately an hour from the Airport depending on what time and day you are going into town. Since you mentioned a Wedding, I am assuming it is on the weekend, which should not be a problem. If I had the choice I would stay at East Shore. There is one other park near the airport, but I have never stayed there, its Dock Weiler Beach.

Did you look at Ruby's Inn RV Park out of Bryce Canyon. It would put you close to Bryce NP, North Rim of the Grand Canyon and an easy day trip to Zion. Just a thought. Check out there website on rvparkreviews.com

Actually we used Priest Gulch as a Base Camp to visit most the places you are going. Not to far from Durango or Mesa Verde, Teluride is pretty close as well. It looks just like the website if not better. Enjoy.

RE: ??? About Redwood RV Resort/Crescent City, Calif.

We just returned from that area though we did not stay at the campground you are staying at. There are plenty of things to do right in Cresent City.
Light House tour, just get there before the tide comes in, we missed the tour and had to run back to dry land.
Just out of Klamath are the Trees of Mistry. Take the self tour its great. They also have a very nice gift shop and Indian Museum. Just across the street is a small hotel on the northeast side of the motel is a path adjacent to Hwy 1, take the path about a mile in and you will find the most beautiful beach to have to yourself, it is called Hidden Beach. Take a camera great photo op area, lots of drift wood and exploring potential.
We actually stayed at the campground there in Klamath, (Klamath Camper Corral) a very nice place to stay. Check it out while your in Klamath. If you go into the office they will actually give you a map of all the neat things to see in the area. Go to Brookings Oregon, nice fishing villege and small marina, good lunch at the cafe.
That's about it, I'm sure we didn't see half the things there, but should give you a start. Have a great time, wish I was there.

RE: Exhaust Brake Recommendations

Jacobs, (Jake Brake) is what I had installed on my Dodge 2500 5 speed manual. Would not drive another vehicle with out one. Some of the newer trucks come with transmission braking devices which are probably just as good. Any additional braking systems are a plus.

RE: Dodge 4500

I know of a 5500 sitting at a dealership in Norco CA. at Fraham Dodge, and has a flat bed with belly boxes on both sides with gooseneck set up. Could be easily outfitted with a 5th Wheel hitch. Price: $50,000
